We have this little room in our house that is central to all the girls’ bedrooms. It took me a while to decide how to make it functional, but I am loving it more and more as I make it their own space. It has become their hang-out, homework, Wii, piano practice and tween room, plus it is a great place to store books and supplies. There is more I plan to do in here, but things are definitely shaping up.
I snagged the Ikea t.v. console on CL for cheap, but it was as good as new. I found the settee on Amazon with free shipping. I love the low back so it doesn’t block off the room. Now all this part of the room needed was some color and something nice and also functional in the corner.
I went with a dark charcoal gray settee because I thought it would look good with pops of bright colors in the room. I had purchased some zig zag pillows from Joss and Main and while I was waiting for the order to come in I found the coordinating fabric at a local fabric store. I still need to decide how to utilize them… I might have them made into two larger pillows, or a lumbar pillow with some sort of window treatment above the french doors, which I painted black when we moved in.
So, I searched CL and found a bookshelf for $10. The backing was warped and a total loss, and the finish was flaking. I sanded the old varnish off, removed the backing, and replaced it with a wood-stainable bead board.
Because of adding the new bead board I added a trim piece to hide any overlap, which finished it off nicely.
I really like the pretty skirt at the bottom…
Here it is all finished. I used a good stain blocker and painted it with Benjamin Moore White Dove. The bead board is in dark walnut.
And here is this portion of the room almost finished! Now, what to do with that coordinating fabric….hmmm.
I’ve painted some furniture this summer in this crazy AZ heat, and I will be sure to show some of those before and afters very soon!
