Mastering Refrigerator Mobility and Leveling: A Comprehensive

Samsung refrigerators are usually equipped with wheels or rollers that enable you to move the appliance across the kitchen floor without damaging the surface.

These rollers, also known as appliance casters, are meant to ease the movement of the refrigerator to allow you to clean beneath or behind it. But how do you unlock wheels on a Samsung refrigerator?

To unlock the refrigerator’s wheels, you will need to remove the grille or the kickplate from the bottom of the appliance to access the wheels. Depending on the model of your refrigerator, the grille could be secured with fast-release screws.

There is usually one or two screw-down pads in front under the grille. Normally you will need to screw them back up to allow the wheels to roll again.

For security reasons, remember to shut off the power supply to your refrigerator before removing the grille. Disconnect the appliance from power or flip off the circuit breaker which supplies the power.

How to Adjust the Wheels on a Refrigerator?

The majority of refrigerators come with adjustable wheels and you can use them to level your appliance. However, this will depend on your specific model as some refrigerators come with non-adjustable rollers or legs for leveling.

If your model is equipped with adjustable height wheels, locate the adjustment screw, which is usually found near the top of the wheels. Most wheels can be adjusted by rotating the screw counterclockwise to lift the front of the refrigerator or counterclockwise to lower it.

To make the work easier, you may want to have somebody else to help you by gently pressing back against the front of the fridge. This will help to take the weight off the legs.

It also eliminates the need to stand up and then crouch to get back down when trying to check a level that is positioned on the top of the refrigerator. Otherwise, refer to the user’s manual to find a possible alternative method of adjustment for your specific model.

Can You Lock Refrigerator Wheels?

Although rollers and appliance casters are not often designed to lock in place, it may help to place a small piece of wood or plastic furniture coaster under the wheels to prevent rolling.

Also, you may use the leveling feet, which can be accessed by removing the bottom cover. Consider re-leveling your refrigerator afterward, if necessary.

In the event that you want to replace either of the front rollers, tilt up the front of the refrigerator, then pull the pin on each roller, and it will fall out. To install a new roller, place it between the holders and push the pin back into place.

Note that a properly leveled refrigerator will have the front of the unit resting on the leveling legs, with the front wheels not in contact with the floor. This will help to avoid potential cooling issues, leak issues, noise issues, and damages to the appliance.

How to Move a Refrigerator with Wheels

Most refrigerators are equipped with wheels or rollers, so moving it shouldn’t be too difficult. To be on the safe side, empty the fridge, disconnect water lines and wiring and defrost the fridge if necessary. Move the appliance a few inches forward and secure it with furniture sliders.

Then from the front of the refrigerator, hold both sides and push it side to side while moving forward. Once you’re satisfied with the placement, wait thirty minutes before using it again. It is recommended that you do not move your refrigerator until it has rested on its side for at least a day.

If the fridge is stuck, and you want to move it, start by removing the bottom faceplate. Sit in front of the device and pull it forward with anything heavy below it. Then you can simply remove it from its resting position.

Note that it is not recommended to move a refrigerator on its back. This is because the weight of the appliance’s body on its operating components may cause injury, even when they are not exposed.

How to Level a Samsung Refrigerator

Refrigerator

As far as Samsung refrigerators are concerned, the leveling process is a simple one and involves only three steps. If your refrigerator isn’t level, Samsung suggests that you locate the leveling legs, adjust them and make minor adjustments.

However, the company doesn’t address other concerns that could pop up, including how to adjust the legs with the weight of the unit on them, how to make the said “minor adjustments” and how to know if your refrigerator is level. Below is a more detailed procedure:

First, the leveling legs are located at the four corners of the refrigerator. To access all of them, you will have to move the appliance away from the wall. Get a helper to tilt the refrigerator by pushing on the rear to lift the feet off the surface.

In case you don’t have a helper, place a flat bar under the refrigerator and push down on the bar to lift the appliance.

Set the rear feet by turning them clockwise or counterclockwise as necessary so the distance between the bottom of each foot and the bottom of the refrigerator is about ¾ inches.

Go around the front, tilt the refrigerator and adjust the appliance leveling feet to roughly the same height as the rear ones. Lower the fridge and put a level on top, parallel to the door and check the level from side to side.

Make any necessary adjustment to the feet to center the bubble, and then push the appliance back against the wall. Consider rotating the level by 90 degrees to check the level from front to back.

The point here is to get your refrigerator tilted very slightly to the front so that any water that gets inside will flow out.

So instead of being exactly centered, the bubble should be slightly forward about 1/8 inches beyond the centerline. Note that you only need to adjust the feet to make this correction.

Lastly, recheck the level from side to side and make any necessary adjustments. Open and close the door a few times to make sure the whole thing is stable and doesn’t wobble.
